Language and literacy in migration context - BIP International Summer
School (Erasmus Blended Intensive Programme)

Focus: The result of collaboration between Masaryk University in Brno
(Czech Republic) and other institutions in Europe and beyond
(University of Bergen; Boğaziçi University; University of Cyprus;
University of Porto; University of Potsdam; Østfold University
College), the school will address from different and complementary
perspectives (theoretical, sociolinguistic, educational) the nuclear
themes included in its title: language, literacy and migration.
Minimum Education Level: Master's and Phd students
Description:
The school is divided into two segments, one online (24-26 April
2024), the other in presence in Brno (3-7 June 2024).
The virtual segment will consist of three meetings on the following
topics: Pleasure reading for adult immigrants with limited literacy;
Multilingualism and literacy in relation to the CEFR and in the field
of language teaching planning.
The in-presence segment will cover the following topics: The notion of
literacy and the existing classifications; Multilingualism types and
multilingual Europe; Multilingualism, literacy and mobility;
Additional language acquisition and methodology; Family Language
Policy and Multilingualism; Multilingual Assessment of Basic Literacy
in Adults; Target-language variation; Research ethics. The programme
includes two workshops on linguistic autobiographies and a lecture on
local linguistic diversity with a focus on language education in
Romani.

The course is primarily intended for students from the project partner
institutions, but is open to an additional 10 students from outside
the partnership.

Tuition Explanation: The course is open to an additional 10 students
outside the project partners. For students from Erasmus partner
institutions (also outside the project) enrolment is free of charge.
Outside the Erasmus programme, the enrolment fee is 50 euros. We also
provide assistance in finding accommodation.
