We are organising a panel at IPRA 2025 in Brisbane which focuses on
theoretical issues in the study of conversational humour. We are
looking for theoretical contributions which address some of the
following concerns (this list is not exhaustive):

 - The relationship between conversational humour, speaker meaning,
inference and social action
 - The negotiation and co-construction of conversational humour in
social interaction
 - How humour relates to (im)politeness, identity and relationships
 - Analytical differences between related terminologies, such as play,
(non)seriousness, joking and kidding
 - The theoretical distinction between humour competence and humour
performance

We are seeking contributions from any scholars who have contributions
to the theorisation of conversational humour. If you are interested in
contributing, please email n.hugman at uq.edu.au

Organisers:
