Description:

The School of Linguistics and Cultural Studies seeks applications for
a "Professorship (m/f/x) in English Didactics with a focus on Language
Education/Teaching salary scale W2" at the Institute for English and
American Studies at the earliest opportunity.

The professorship involves planning and carrying out research in the
field of English language education/teaching as well as teaching
duties covering all Bachelor and Master’s degree programmes. In view
of the rapid changes in teaching and learning in schools as well as in
digitally supported research, the candidate should be able to
demonstrate a research record in digitalisation in English language
teaching (ELT) contexts.

We are looking for a candidate whose research focuses on the field of
teaching English as a foreign language with specific emphasis on the
impact of cultural and linguistic diversity in ELT classroom settings,
and the integration of digital methodologies to facilitate foreign
language learning and teaching in this context. The applicant is
expected to offer proven expertise in teaching English as a foreign
language covering all types of schools within the German education
system, i.e. primary and secondary schools as well as vocational
colleges.

Required are:
 - A Master’s degree in English or American Studies or an English
teaching degree
 - An outstanding PhD in Didactics / teaching English as a foreign
language / ELT, Applied Linguistics or any other area of English or
American Studies
 - Habilitation or equivalent postdoctoral research qualifications
reflecting the requested research focus
 - A research focus on digitalisation in Didactics / teaching English
as a foreign language / ELT with a view to further research in this
area (to be detailed in a three-page research proposal)
 - Teaching expertise across a broad range of topics in Didactics /
teaching English as a foreign language / ELT (to be displayed through
a list of courses taught and a three-page teaching concept detailing
the philosophy of teaching)
 - Excellent English skills (C2)
 - Good German skills (or the willingness to develop these within two
years)
 - Successful application/s for third-party funding

Desirable are:
 - Experience in empirical research.
 - Research contributions in the field of Second Language Acquisition
(SLA).
 - Familiarity with academic self-administration.
 - Experience in international cooperations.
 - Willingness to contribute to the School’s research project
“Advanced Language Acquisition” as well as to the University’s
research focus “Diversity and Participation”.

The position also requires active involvement in the University of
Oldenburg’s Centre of Teacher Education (DIZ) including its continuous
professional development (CPD) and specific research programmes. As
the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by
a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is
expected. Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of
the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). Professorships with a
functional description involving duties in education science or
didactics can only be filled with candidates who can additionally
provide evidence of at least three years of practical experience at a
school or suitable pedagogical experience, or appropriate empirical
research experience corresponding to these duties. The University aims
to increase its proportion of women in science. Equally qualified
women will be considered preferentially. In case of equal aptitude,
applicants with disabilities will be given priority in hiring
decisions. The position is suitable for part-time employment.
