Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Maryland seeks to
hire a postdoctoral associate beginning in August 2025. The initial
appointment will be for two years. We anticipate a subsequent
tenure-track position in syntax and it is possible that the
postdoctoral associate would be eligible for conversion to a
tenure-track position, depending on both success in the position and
budgetary constraints in the university.
We are seeking a scholar with an active research program in
theoretical syntax. In addition to research, the postdoctoral
associate will teach one course per semester and participate actively
in the intellectual life of the department, including advising and
mentoring students at all levels, participating in reading groups, lab
meetings and department events, and collaborating with students and
faculty.
A PhD degree in Linguistics or another relevant field is required
prior to the position start date of July 30. The ideal candidate will
specialize in syntax, will show evidence of being an active community
member, and will show evidence of being an effective teacher.
The department is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and
outreach and we especially welcome applications from under-represented
scholars.
Please apply through the email below. A complete application consists
of:
- cover letter
- research statement
- curriculum vitae including links to publications and the names and
contact information of three references.
We will contact references for letters. Review of applications will
begin February 1, 2025.
Applications and inquiries should be sent to Tonia Bleam at the email
