Description:

The FAU seeks to appoint one (50%) doctoral researcher
(Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin/Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter
(m/w/d), TV-L E 13), for 1+2 years in English linguistics. After an
evaluation there is the possibility to extend the position for 2 more
years. This means potentially 5 years max. The researcher will be
working at the Department of English and American Studies and will be
part of an international team headed by Prof. Dr. Lotte Sommerer
starting 1st of April 2025. The doctoral researcher will develop a PhD
project in the following area: Constructional Complexity (empirical,
diachronic, corpus-based, constructional project on EModE/LModE NPs)

Selection criteria and qualifications:

Necessary:
- An excellent MA in English Linguistics
- Familiarity with usage-based, constructional models of language
(CCxG)
- Experience in designing and carrying out corpus-based studies
- Good IT skills (Windows, Excel,…)
- C2 in English, German B2
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable:
- Familiarity with standard statistical tests and software (R Studio,
Python)

Main Duties:

- Design, carry out and publish PhD research
- Participate in conferences and summer schools
- Teach at undergraduate level (4 hours per week)
- Undertake any other duties consistent with the level and nature of
the post (support the acquisition of third-party funding, help
organize conferences and workshops, help team members with grading,
research and administrative duties)
