Meeting Description:
The Organizing Committee is pleased to announce the Inaugural Irish
Studies in Asia (ISA) Conference, which will take place in Kobe,
Japan, on March 21-22, 2025. The conference seeks to explore Ireland’s
contributions to linguistics, literature, and culture and its
connections with Asia and the wider world.
We encourage papers from presenters of any nationality, in English or
Japanese, that are broadly accessible and of general interest,
offering insights that will resonate with attendees from diverse
academic and cultural backgrounds. There is no requirement for either
presenters or attendees to be ISA members. Please note that this
conference will be an in-person event only, and no video conferencing
options will be available for presentations.

Suggested Topics Include:
• Irish literature and its international contexts
• Studies of the Irish language and its cultural significance
• Irish English: its evolution, linguistic structure and cultural
impact
• Comparative cultural or literary studies involving Ireland and
Asia
• Migration, the Irish diaspora and global identity
• Irish contributions to theater, film, and music
• The island of Ireland and geopolitics
•Place and memory on the island of Ireland
Submission Guidelines:
Abstract Length: 250–300 words accompanied by a 50-word summary, or if
the presentation will be in Japanese [CHARACTER COUNT]
Deadline for Submissions: 31st January, 2025, 23:59 Japan Standard
Time.
Submit to: Submissions can be made through our conference website.
Please be sure to create or update your edzil.la profile on the
conference website.
Submissions will be subject to blind peer review and results sent to
presenters by mid-February.
