Description:

Position Overview:
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in multilingualism and
language learning is open at the Department of Language and Culture
(ISK), part of the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and
Education (HSL). The position is affiliated with the Center for
Language, Brain & Learning (C-LaBL), focusing on the Learning domain,
funded by the Trond Mohn Foundation 2024-2029. The fixed-term position
spans three years and is aimed at qualifying candidates for prominent
academic roles.

Location and Starting Date:
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø (Norway), with an expected starting
date in August/September 2024.

Department and Research Environment:
ISK boasts a dynamic research profile, housing notable research
communities in linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and language
technology. The department offers a range of programs and PhD
opportunities. C-LaBL aims to advance understanding of
multilingualism's cognitive aspects, emphasizing linguistic distance
and its impact on language development and processing.

Project Focus:
The advertised postdoc position falls under C-LaBL's Learning domain,
investigating multilingualism's role in learning processes,
particularly in educational contexts. It will focus on three main
language situations, including English acquisition by Norwegian youth.
The research explores linguistic distance, metalinguistic awareness,
and interventions to enhance literacy development, emphasizing
practical relevance to education and societal challenges.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the research
team, contribute to project planning, manage day-to-day operations,
participate in participant recruitment, conduct fieldwork, analyze
data, and disseminate results. They will work both independently and
collaboratively, contributing to the project's evolution.

Qualifications:
 - Required: PhD in Linguistics, Language Education, or related
fields, expertise in empirical language research, and excellent
proficiency in English.
 - Desired: Strong statistical modeling skills, experience with
multilingual populations, proficiency in Norwegian or another
Scandinavian language, and knowledge of additional languages.
