Meeting Description:

The International Conference “Reflection and Metalinguistic Awareness
in the Language Teaching Process” results from the activities
conducted by the Research on Education and Language Teaching (RELATE)
group. This research network, founded in 2023, gather researchers from
Brazil, Italy, Portugal, and United States. The first conference
organized by RELATE on March 2023 at the Università degli Studi di
Perugia (Italy) developed the theme “Metalinguistics Awareness role on
learning Portuguese as a Foreign Language”.
This second conference aims to promote debate on reflection and
metalinguistic competence in the language teaching and learning
process and bring together scholars and teachers of foreign language
(L2/FL), heritage language (HL) and mother language (L1) and
researchers interested and concerned within this central theme. In
this context, the focus is on the analysis of metalinguistic
activities mainly from the perspective of the cognitive and
metacognitive processes underlying them and not simply as spontaneous
linguistic implications of self-referentiality in a metalinguistic
discourse that contains definitions and uses the identification of
labels to categorize formal aspects of the language.
This international conference accepts contributions presenting
different theoretical and/or methodological approaches on the topic
and/or sharing experiences about teaching and research practices aimed
to encourage students to act consciously and reflectively through
metalinguistic operations and support the development of the capacity
for analysis and intentional control in the use of the different known
linguistic systems.

Call for Papers:

Communication proposals in English, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish
can be sent until February 29th, 2024 to relate2024 at gmail.com, and
must indicate: title, abstract (up to 1000 characters, references
excluded) bibliographic references (up to five). The outcome of the
selection process will be communicated by March 5th.
