Subject: Multiliteracies Pedagogy and Generative AI in Second/Heritage Language Classes
We are seeking abstracts (200 words) for research and research-guided
practice papers (7,000-7,500 words) for an edited volume on
applications of Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in
second/heritage language education grounded in the pedagogy of
multiliteracies (New London Group, 1996) or related frameworks such as
"Learning by Design" (Kalantzis & Cope, 2010, 2012, 2023).
Abstracts should propose chapters that critically examine the
potential benefits, challenges, and implications of integrating GenAI
tools in second/heritage language instruction. We are particularly
interested in contributions that:
--Offer evidence for ways in which GenAI can enhance teaching and
learning, including assessment, within multiliteracies frameworks;
--Explore the design and implementation of GenAI-supported activities
for multimodal language learning;
--Assess the impact of GenAI on second/heritage learners’ engagement,
motivation, and language development in multiliteracies-based
classrooms;
--Discuss ethical considerations in connection to equity,
accessibility, and representation in the use of GenAI for language
education.
Abstracts should be no more than 200 words and clearly outline the
chapter’s objectives, methodology, and potential contributions to the
field. Please include a brief author bio (50-75 words). Please direct
any questions to Gabriela C. Zapata at
Gabriela.Zapata at nottingham.ac.uk.
--Submission deadline for abstracts: March 15, 2024
--Notification of decision: By April 30, 2024
--Submission deadline for complete papers: July 31, 2024
Please email abstract and bio to Gabriela C. Zapata
