Meeting Description:
The symposium is the continuation of a series of international
symposia previously held in Tromsø 2006 and 2009, in Freiburg 2017, in
Uppsala 2019 and in Tartu 2022. The purpose of the symposium is to
give scholars an opportunity to present current research, participate
in formal and informal discussion on relevant topics, and explore
potential opportunities for future collaborative work. We especially
encourage younger researchers at the Master’s and PhD levels to
present their work.
The focal theme of the 6th symposium will be “Saami as a Uralic
language”, and keynote speeches will be given by professor Jussi
Ylikoski (University of Turku, Finland) and associate professor
Minerva Piha (Nord University, Levanger, Norway). Thus, we are
particularly looking forward to presentations and posters with
typological, contrastive and historical perspectives on Saami
languages, while papers related to any other aspects of Saami
languages and linguistics are also welcome.
