Call for Papers:
Abstract submission for APLL16 is now open. The Programme Committee
welcomes presentations on any aspect of the linguistics of
Austronesian and Papuan languages, including descriptive linguistics
of individual languages, and comparative and historical studies
involving several of these languages. The purpose of the APLL
conferences is to provide a venue for presentation of the best current
research on Austronesian and Papuan languages and linguistics, and to
promote collaboration and research in this area.
Following APLL16, the 3rd Workshop on the Languages of Wallacea will
be held on 4 July 2024. Special topic for WLW3: New perspectives on
the history of the South Halmahera-West New Guinea subgroup. In this
workshop, we welcome all contributions which engage with all aspects
of the history of this Austronesian subgroup. Questions to be
considered include, but are not limited to: What are the challenges
for understanding the history of SHWNG languages? How much is really
known about their internal relationships and what is the evidence for
them? What is the role of contact in the history of the group? Are
there alternatives to traditional subgrouping as explanations for
linguistic similarities shared across the group?
For both events, presentations will be 20 minutes, followed by 10
minutes of discussion. For each event, each individual may contribute
up to two submissions, one of which may be a single-author paper.
Abstracts will be peer-reviewed by members of the Programme Committee.
Please send your abstracts of papers for APLL16 and WLW3 to
appl16conference at gmail.com no later than the date specified below.
Please indicate on the abstract whether the submission is to APLL16 or
WLW3.
Abstracts must be no more than two A4 pages in length, including all
material such as references, examples, figures, tables, and maps.
Abstracts must be anonymous, and set in a minimum of 12pt font. They
should be in .pdf format and the filename should start with APLL16 (or
WLW3), followed by an underscore and then first author’s surname, e.g.
APLL16_sonder.pdf or WLW3_sonder.pdf. If you have a common surname,
please also include initials, e.g. APLL16_jsmith.pdf.
