Call Deadline: 15-Nov-2024
Meeting Description:
This workshop focuses on coreferences and discourse deixis in Latin
texts. The phenomena under examination are particularly engaging, as
they encompass semantic and syntactic aspects of language, crucial for
a thorough understanding of texts and of language itself, in all its
varieties. The analysis of these phenomena sheds light on the
relationship between the text and the context. It is indeed from the
context that one can infer which entity a mention refers to. How do
these phenomena manifest in the Latin language? Is it possible to
identify diachronic changes and differences across textual genres?
Does comparison with other languages (related or unrelated to Latin)
highlight peculiar features of the Latin language? These phenomena can
be approached and interpreted through various theories and
methodologies: from coreference (or anaphora) resolution in NLP to
discourse deixis in pragmatics or agreement resolution in
morphosyntax. The workshop aims to enrich the understanding of these
phenomena through the contributions of scholars from different and
complementary fields.
The publication of an edited volume consisting of the papers discussed
during the workshop is planned.
