Call for Papers:

For issue n°120
Rethinking Language Education in the Digital Age
Editorial committee: Edina Krompák, Olena Marina & Stefanie Wyss,
Haute École Pédagogique de Lucerne

Contributions to the issue should address three core themes:
1. Digital Tools and Methodologies in language education: the special
issue explores the ways digital tools are being integrated into
language learning and teaching, examining their impact on traditional
learning paradigms and how they foster new pedagogical approaches.
2. Multimodal and Digital Literacy: through highlighting recent
advancements in multimodal and digital literacies, the special issue
focuses on the ways these literacies are practiced in everyday life as
well as their implications for language ideologies and education.
3. AI and Language Education: the special issue delves into the rapid
integration of AI in language learning, addressing both its potential
benefits and the ethical dilemmas it presents. Discussions may include
insights from recent studies on AI’s efficacy in language learning,
its role in feedback mechanisms, and its application in creating
adaptive learning environments.

Consequently, the special issue focuses on the following main research
questions:
To what extend do digital tools and corresponding emerging
methodologies contribute to the advancement in language learning and
teaching? (1)
How can multimodal and digital literacy be applied in contemporary
language learning and teaching? (2)
What are the benefits and challenges of using AI in language
education? (3)

The proposed special issue focuses on digital advances in language
learning and teaching as well as on corresponding methodologies and
forms of work, both in and outside the classroom. Consequently, the
special issue opens new avenues for theoretical debates,
methodological innovations, and empirical evidence on the relationship
between language learning and teaching, and digital transformation.
