Second language pronunciation: Current issues and developments

Guest editor: Dr. Jennifer A. Foote, University of Alberta

The 21st century has seen a major resurgence of interest in second
language (L2) pronunciation research and teaching. As the area
continues to grow, so to do questions and issues related to L2
pronunciation. In light of this, we are accepting manuscripts for a
Special Edition of the Canadian Journal of Applied Linguistics. Topics
may include, but are not limited to:
 • Accent and identity
 • Pedagogical approaches and techniques
 • Pronunciation and technology
 • Intelligibility, comprehensibly, and accentedness
 • Instructor and/or learner views and beliefs around pronunciation
instruction
 • Ethics and pronunciation instruction
 • Perception and production in pronunciation development
 • Pronunciation assessment
 • Implementing pronunciation within broader curricula

We are accepting both full-length articles (max 10000 words) and
shorter articles (2500-3000 words) based on classroom accounts. For
full-length articles, both empirical studies and theoretical
discussions will be considered. Articles based on classroom accounts
should demonstrate clear grounding in research. For this issue we ask
for articles to be written in English.

Interested authors should send an abstract (max 300 words) for their
proposed articles to jfoote at ualberta.ca no later than Sept 25th, 2024.
Please include the full name and affiliation for all authors.

Prononciation en langue seconde : questionnements et développement
actuels

Le 21e siècle a vu un regain majeur d'intérêt pour la recherche et
l'enseignement de la prononciation en langue seconde (L2). Au fur et à
mesure que ce domaine continue de se développer, les questionnements
et les enjeux liés à la prononciation en L2 se multiplient. Dans ce
contexte, nous acceptons des manuscrits pour une édition spéciale de
la Revue canadienne de linguistique appliquée. Les thèmes peuvent
inclure, mais ne sont pas limités à :

 • Accent et identité
 • Approches pédagogiques
 • Prononciation et technologie
 • Intelligibilité, compréhension et accent perçu
 • Opinions et croyances des enseignant.es et/ou des apprenant.es
concernant l'enseignement de la prononciation
 • Éthique et enseignement de la prononciation
 • Rôle de la perception et la production dans le développement de la
prononciation
 • Évaluation de la prononciation
 • Intégration de la prononciation dans les programmes plus larges

Nous acceptons des articles longs (10 000 mots maximum) ainsi que des
articles plus courts (2 500-3 000 mots) basés sur des expérimentations
en classe. Pour les articles longs, des études empiriques ou des
discussions théoriques seront les bienvenues. Les articles basés sur
des expérimentations en classe doivent être clairement ancrées
théoriquement dans la recherche. Pour ce numéro, nous demandons que
les articles soient rédigés en anglais.

Les auteurs intéressés doivent envoyer un résumé (300 mots maximum) de
