Meeting Description:
While considerable linguistic research has been devoted to Tense,
Aspect, and Modality (TAM) in South Asian languages, a substantial
portion of this literature has been directly or indirectly shaped by
our comprehension of these concepts as evidenced in specific European
languages, predominantly English. Therefore, it is necessary to
encourage more innovative research in this area. We are coordinating
an international conference at INALCO in Paris from October 29-31,
2024, in order to accomplish this objective. While the primary
objective of this conference is to examine the analysis of Tense,
Aspect, and Modality in South Asian languages, we are also open to
receiving proposals that demonstrate innovative research on these
subjects utilizing fresh data from any language in the world, provided
that such contributions further the body of knowledge and research in
this field. The agenda for the meeting will encompass a wide range of
subjects, such as the historical evolution and representation of TAM
elements in South Asian languages, the various types of habituality,
the functions of TAM markers in complex predicates in South Asian
languages, perfectivity, imperfectivity, iterativity, and aspect
stacking.
Call for Papers:
We invite abstract for paper presentations reporting original research
on Tense, Aspect and Modality in South Asian Languages, both ancient
and modern, without any limitations on study methods or linguistic
framework. Abstracts should in Word format, anonymous, and no more
than 500 words in length, and be sent to: hindi.paris at gmail.com as
soon as possible, and preferably no later than June 30, 2024.
Kindly include your name and professional title within the body of the
email, rather than in the abstract of your paper.
