Meeting Description:
The 5th World Congress of Taiwan Studies aims to explore the changes
in Taiwan within and without. We sincerely invite presenters to study
the evolving relationships between Taiwan and the world from the past
to the present and the future.
Call for Papers and Panels:
WCTS-5 – 2025
The 5th World Congress of Taiwan Studies (WCTS-5) will be held at
Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, May 23-25, 2025. The general theme
of the WCTS-5 is Taiwan in a Changing World: Past, Present, and
Future, focusing on the relevance of Taiwan Studies to Humanities and
Social Sciences.
Thirty-one panels are planned for (in-person) paper presentations and
we expect WCTS-5 to provide an intellectual platform for scholars
around the world interested and/or involved in Taiwan Studies. We
kindly encourage participants from various research fields (including
history, philology, archaeology, ethnology, economics, literature,
philosophy, sociology, linguistics, law, political sciences, and
social sciences) to submit empirical and/or theoretical studies to
this Congress.
Papers on Linguistics are solicited in either English or Mandarin
Chinese for 20-minute talks (plus 10 minutes for discussion) on any
research aspect of Formosan languages.
A panel will be organized on voice and related topics but panels on
other topics related to Formosan languages are also invited.
The submission deadline is September 30, 2024.
Submissions are limited to one individual and one joint abstract per
author. Abstracts should be single-spaced, in 12-point fonts, and
limited to two A4 (or US Letter) pages with 1-inch or 2.5-cm margins,
as follows: on the first page should appear the abstract (of no more
than 750 words) and on the second page, relevant data, figures, and
references. Authors’ names should not appear on the abstract itself,
but the abstract should include a title.
Participants interested in organizing a panel should submit a general
abstract, indicating the title of the proposed panel, the expected
participants, and the title of each presentation. Authors interested
in submitting an abstract to the panel on voice and related topics
should contact directly Elizabeth Zeitoun (hsez at gate.sinica.edu.tw).
