Subject: Verbs of separation in Germanic languages compared
Dear colleagues,
I have recently been working on a small comparative study for which I
want to collect data on the domain of verbs of separation (often
referred to as "verbs of cutting and breaking") in different Germanic
languages. Specifically, I have designed an online questionnaire with
35 very short video clips, and participants are asked to describe in
one sentence what happens in the clip. I am particularly interested in
the use of preverbs (prefixes, separable and non-separable verb
particles) in different Germanic languages and how their use affects
the meaning of base verbs and their semantic scope. The languages I
would like to include are Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish,
Faroese, German, Dutch and Frisian (English is not included). If you
speak any of these languages as a native speaker or at C-level and
would like to participate in the survey, or forward the link to the
survey to potential participants, I would greatly appreciate it (it
would take about 15-20 minutes to participate). Here is the link to
the survey: https://s2survey.net/verbs_of_separation/
Thank you very much for taking the time!
