Meeting Description:
I am organising a workshop entitled "Semantic foundations for
narratology" whose main aim is to bring philosophers of fiction,
linguists and narratologists together. This workshop is part of the
ESSLLI24 program (week 2), taking place in Leuven from August 5th to
9th, 2024: https://2024.esslli.eu/placeholder-programme.html
Please find the motivation and the description of this workshop online
here: https://rouillel.github.io/esslli-workshop.html
In view of the description of the workshop, contributions addressing
the following (non-exhaustive) list of topics will be welcomed:
• The linguistic interest of the fictional periphery (or secondary
fiction)
• Modelling reference, truth and tense in fiction
• Theories of narration across media
• Debates about the possibility and interest of narrator-less fictions
• Theorising about the fictional vs. metafictional distinction
• Second-person narratives and theorising about the narratee
• Linguistic metafictions and their relevance for a general theory of
fiction
Anyone interested to present a paper in this workshop is invited to
send a 2 pages abstract (12 pt font; 1in or 2.5cm margins) — with an
extra page for references — to louis.rouille at uliege.be by April 20
(the object should contain "ESSLLI24").
Please do not hesitate to reach out for any further questions
concerning either practical or theoretical matters,
Louis Rouillé
