Dear Readers of the LINGUIST List,

I will make it short. LINGUIST List has seen many challenges through
the years; and it has always risen to meet them, including persevering
through COVID. But operating costs have continued to rise,
and—frankly—these increases are more than we can handle alone. While
we have a plan for how to stay afloat next year, we still need to
close this fiscal year in positive numbers. Our fund raising goal this
month is $30,000 and the future of the LINGUIST List depends on the
success of this fund drive.

There are 18,000 subscribers on our mailing lists. If each subscriber
donated $2, we would be secure. We have up to 200,000 unique visitors
on our website every year. If each user of our website would donate
just $1, we would not need a fund drive for the next 5 years. I am
addressing you, the person who is too shy or feels too unimportant to
think that your actions may change the world. Yes, you can keep the
LINGUIST List going. Every dollar counts. If everybody decides it’s
somebody else’s business, we risk that June will be the last month of
the LINGUIST List as you know it.

I want to thank our past and current donors. Your kind gifts have
allowed us to disseminate the information, helped to stimulate the
exchange and collaboration, helped young linguists find their jobs.
Your kind gifts contributed to the well-being of the whole discipline.
We are all beneficiaries of your kindness. In addition, your donations
help support LINGUIST List’s editors—all graduate students in
linguistics. Because of your generosity, they do not have to take on
staggering debts in order to pursue their studies, so you make a
dramatic difference in life of individuals. Thank you!

We hope that with your support we will be able to continue our
operations at the current level, and that we will all continue
benefiting from being a part of the LINGUIST List community.
