Dear Linguists,
My name is Justin Fuller, and I’m writing to you to say THANK YOU!
I have been with the LINGUIST List for nearly one year; and as I
reflect on that time, I feel privileged and honored to be a part of
such a generous and spirited community.
I am a PhD student in Linguistics at Indiana University Bloomington;
and it is no exaggeration to say that without YOU, I--like so many
others now and in years past--could not afford to be here. The
LINGUIST List literally allows me and other graduate students to
pursue a discipline that we love. And to be clear, when I refer to the
“LINGUIST List,” I do not just mean the mailing list or the website.
I mean YOU. The entire collection of subscribers, submitters, book
reviewers, job posters, and donors who make it all possible. Thank
YOU!
I wear multiple hats at LINGUIST List. I am the Managing Editor. I
take care of invoicing for our various paid services (e.g. job
postings). I handle Books and Reviews; and I am the primary editor for
several of our minor submission categories, such as Discussions, FYIs,
and Queries.
It feels like a lot, yet it’s a just a fraction of the entirety of the
services that our dedicated team provides. And speaking of that team,
I must take this opportunity to explicitly recognize and thank these
individuals who work so hard behind the scenes to make LINGUIST List
operate:
My fellow editors: Zack Leech and Rin Steitz, whose positive attitude
keep me upbeat!
Our web development team: Natasha Singh and Daniel Swanson, whose
problem-solving skills are unmatched!
And of course, our co-moderators: Dr. Francis Tyers and Dr. Malgosia
Cavar, who help guide and advocate for us all!
As you can see, we are a small team brought together by a large
undertaking. And although we are happy to do it, the truth is that
it’s getting harder. Costs continue to rise, and we often must make do
with fewer resources. It’s for this reason that the Fund Drive is so
important to us.
Please take a moment and reflect on your relationship with the
LINGUIST List. If you have enjoyed and benefited from our content, I
humbly ask you to consider making a donation. Even a small donation
helps because every single dollar matters!

Thank you,
Justin Fuller
