An international tenure track position in Experimental Linguistics
giving access to full professorship is now open for applications at
the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA), attached to the
Center for Basque Languages and Texts IKER (UMR 5478) of the CNRS, in

The Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) is opening a
full-time tenure track “Junior Professor Chair” position in the field
of Experimental Linguistics to work at the IKER lab of the CNRS. The
successful candidate will lead and direct original research within a
newly funded experimental lab, by managing major projects on, among
others, bilingualism, language acquisition, language pathologies,
experimental sociolinguistics, etc.
There are no citizenship restrictions. International applications are
encouraged, which are to be submitted online here. Applications can be
submitted in English or French.
Junior Professor Chairs are recruited among researchers with strong
potential to manage and lead research teams and participate in
national or international projects. The position is mainly dedicated
to research. After a probationary period of 5 years, following a
tenure review, the successful candidate will be awarded a full
professorship position.
Anticipated starting date: September 1, 2024.
Selection of candidates: end of June / beginning of July 2024
Auditions: beginning of July 2024. The auditions may be conducted in
English, if the applicants so wish.
Teaching load is 64 h per year during the first 5 years.
Proficiency in Basque will be positively valued. If the hired
candidate does not speak it, it is expected that they will learn it
during the contract.
Proficiency in French at the time of recruitment is not mandatory. If
the hired candidate does not speak it, it is expected that they will
learn it during the contract.
Proficiency in Spanish will be positively valued.
It is expected that the hired candidate, if not already holding an HDR
(Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches), will defend one before the
end of the contract.
The successful applicant will become part of a unique research
environment, the Center for Basque Languages and Texts IKER UMR5478.
A 200,000 € starting fund for research will be provided.
Applicants should have:
- A PhD degree in Linguistics, Experimental linguistics, or other
related fields
- Excellent scientific achievements, as shown by their publication
record in international peer-reviewed journals
- A relevant international network

- Full CV
- Report on previous research.
- A research statement for the Junior Professor Chair position,
including a schedule of the planned operations.
- The thesis jury report and the thesis itself (optional but
recommended).
- 2-3 publications.
- 2-3 reference contacts.
