Description:
Brigham Young University's Linguistics Department is hiring for a
full-time faculty position in Linguistics-TESOL. Required Degree:
Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, TESOL or a
related field.The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:
All Candidates must have:
-- Proficiency to teach courses in core areas of TESOL. See course

-- Dedication to innovative teaching focused on student growth and
lifelong learning
-- Commitment to mentoring students effectively in and out of class.
Ability to contribute to TESOL thesis committees as a Reader and/or as
a Chair.
-- Willingness to support student faith through obvious commitment to
the religious expectations of the sponsoring institution, The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
-- Evident potential for or substantiated record of scholarly research
and/or a well-defined research agenda.
Ideal candidates would have some of the following:
-- Keenness to collaborate with students on diverse research projects,
both faculty-led and student-driven.
-- Ability to bridge personal scholarship with other programs in the
department.
-- Mission-aligned scholarship that can be readily connected with BYU
emphases on multilingualism, family, religion, human flourishing, and
constitutional government.
-- Experience teaching English as a second or foreign language in
diverse contexts such as online English classes, refugee centers,
foreign language schools, community English programs, intensive
English programs, etc.
Duties/Expectations: Under a 10-month contract, primary
responsibilities will encompass:
-- Teaching six courses annually, predominantly within the TESOL
minor, TESOL MA, and English Linguistics BA, but also possibly courses
in the University's English Language Center and in other department
programs (https://ling.byu.edu/all-programs).
-- Continually updating and refining teaching and mentoring techniques
with a commitment to engaging and educating learners effectively.
-- Conducting original research and disseminating that research in
reputable journals, books, or other scholarly outlets.
-- Mentoring students in TESOL practices and research, presenting
professionally, producing peer-reviewed articles for publication, and
applying for funding.
-- Supporting the mission of the English Language Center
(https://elc.byu.edu) administratively and pedagogically.
-- Contributing to other departmental or college duties, including
student advising, thesis chairing, program coordination, committee
service, and shared governance.
