The Department of Linguistics at the Paris Lodron University of
Salzburg (Austria) is inviting applications for an Assistant Professor
position (with a qualification requirement) in Austrian Sign Language
Linguistics, beginning October 2024. The position is for 6 years, but
will become a permanent Associate Professor position, once the
qualification agreement of a “Habilitation” is reached. The position
is in accordance with the Austrian UG and the Employee Act (§ 27 of
the Austrian universities' collective bargaining agreement).

The Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) is a successful and
inspiring university in Austria that is known for outstanding
achievements in research and teaching in the field of (digital)
humanities, the life sciences, the sustainability of (social)
processes and the commitment to the Arts & Sciences. With the four
guiding themes of Art in Context, Development and Sustainability,
Digital Life and Health and Mind, PLUS offers scientists excellent
opportunities for inter- and transdisciplinary networking.

Areas of responsibility:
•       Completion of a habilitation within a period specified in the
employment contract (maximum of four years) or, in justified
exceptional cases, other specified qualification goals
•       Research and teaching in sign language linguistics (theory,
processing and practice with focus on Austrian Sign Language = ÖGS)
•       Scientific support in research and teaching as well as
participation in administrative tasks in the area of ÖGS
•       Independent teaching of four semester hours per week (after
reaching the qualification goal, eight semester hours per week)
•       Research and teaching in the area of theoretical foundations,
representation and processing of sign languages (with focus on ÖGS)

Required qualifications:
•       Completed doctoral degree in linguistics with focus on
psycho-/neurolinguistics of sign languages and the—at least
partial—publication of the dissertation
•       If possible, external scientific work carried out abroad—at
least for a year (“out of PLUS”)
•       Relevant publications (peer reviewed) in the area of
theoretical and experimental investigation of sign language
•       Proven expertise in ÖGS

Preferred additional qualifications:
•       Expertise in EEG and motion capture, as well as annotation of
sign language videos
•       Excellent knowledge of statistics
•       Experience in supervising BA and MA theses

Desired other qualities:
• commitment to research, teaching and administration
•       Independent, responsible, performance-oriented work
•       Strong teamwork skills
•       Disability competence
