Description:
The Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of
Nevada, Reno seeks an Assistant Professor in Spanish Linguistics with
expertise in Computational Linguistics as well as the ability to excel
in teaching graduate and undergraduate linguistics courses in Spanish,
especially those aligned with the M.A. program, the Pack Teach dual
degree B.A., and the interdisciplinary Computational Linguistics B.S.
The successful applicant will also advise and mentor students in
Linguistics and serve on M.A. advisement-examination committees. The
teaching load for this tenure-track position is 2/3 and the start date
is July 1, 2025.
The successful applicant will join a growing community of digital
scholars in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). Two CLA departments –
English and World Languages and Literatures – will hire new faculty
with Computational Linguistics expertise in Fall 2025.
The dean has made it a strategic priority to ensure these tenure-track
colleagues can connect with each other as well as with faculty from
Computer Science and other disciplines who are dedicated to pursuing
scholarly and creative activities in Computational Linguistics and
Digital Humanities.
Required Qualifications
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
- PhD in Spanish Linguistics or a related field in hand by July 1,
2025
- An established or clearly developing scholarly agenda in Spanish
Linguistics
- Training or experience in Computer Science, including in relevant
subfields like Artificial Intelligence, Large Language Models, Deep
Learning, or Machine Learning
- Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to inclusive teaching
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong commitment to advancing knowledge in Computational
Linguistics and/or AI.
- Research or experience in fields such as corpus linguistics,
knowledge extraction, semantics, sociolinguistics, syntax,
phonetics/phonology, machine translation, sentiment analysis, or
natural language interfaces.
- Interest in developing new graduate and undergraduate Linguistics
courses with AI and computational elements.
Compensation Grade
Assistant Professor
Salary is competitive and commensurate with related education and
