Subject: The OASIS database now holds over 2,000 summaries!

We are delighted to share the news that the OASIS database now holds
over 2,000 summaries in 26 languages, including British and American
Sign Languages! A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has contributed to
and/or supported the OASIS initiative over the past few years. Without
your involvement, this milestone would not have been possible.

We plan to expand the scope of OASIS even further and would love to
receive summaries of published articles from all domains of
language-related research. We are seeking new (no-cost) partnerships
with journals, organisations, and professional associations to support
research accessibility and evidence-informed thinking and practice for
those working in language-related roles.

What is OASIS? The OASIS database (https://oasis-database.org) makes
language-related research freely available and accessible to diverse
audiences. OASIS summaries are one-page, non-technical descriptions of
peer-reviewed journal articles in the area of language studies. Each
summary includes what the study was about, why it is important, what
the researcher(s) did, and what the study found.

We have over 2,000 summaries on a huge range of topics, including:
multilingualism; intercultural competence; home, heritage, and
community languages; language policy; motivation; content and language
integrated learning; curriculum design; sign languages; assessment;
translanguaging; second language acquisition; self-efficacy; and many
other topics! There have been over 75,565 downloads of summaries.

Each week, more summaries are added, and links to them are distributed
to those signed up (for free) to the OASIS alerts
(https://subscriptions.oasis-database.org/). Sign-ups can be
personalised to specific research interests or set to include all the
new summaries for each week.

How does OASIS work? Currently, a number of journals
(https://oasis-database.org/journals) encourage or require authors of
newly accepted articles to write an accessible summary of their work,
including Foreign Language Annals; International Journal of Bilingual
Education and Bilingualism; Journal of Language, Identity and
Education; Language Learning; Studies in Second Language Acquisition;
TESOL Quarterly; and The Modern Language Journal. This regular support
from journals provides a steady stream of new summaries, up-to-date
content, and a sustainable, author- and journal-driven practice. By
establishing a culture of systematic production and dissemination of
non-technical, open summaries, research is made more accessible,
physically and conceptually, to people within and beyond academia.

What is next? The OASIS resource is developed and disseminated through
collaboration with a range of prominent professional organisations
(https://oasis-database.org/about) and journals
(https://oasis-database.org/journals) in language-related fields.
However, there remains great scope for extending the reach and
increasing the visibility of OASIS summaries.

How can you help? There are several ways in which you could help
support OASIS, including:
 - Subscribing (https://subscriptions.oasis-database.org/) to the
weekly (personalisable) email alert about new summaries.
 - Encouraging your colleagues and collaborators to subscribe as well.
 - Writing summaries of your own or other authors’ journal articles.
 - Writing to journals that you read or publish with to encourage them
to partner with OASIS and offer accessible summaries to accompany
their publications.
 - Following us on X/Twitter @OASIS_Database.
 - Adding a link to OASIS on the resources or research page on your
website or on your institution’s pages.
 - Providing a short statement of support to put on our website.

If you are interested in supporting our work, or have any queries,
comments, or feedback, please feel free to contact us at
oasis at oasis-database.org.

Best wishes,
The Open Accessible Summaries in Language Studies (OASIS) Team
