Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics

Call Deadline: 15-Jan-2025
Meeting Description:
The symposium aims to bring to the fore the most pressing and engaging
problems in comparative Germanic linguistics within a variety of
research domains, including but not limited to linguistic
reconstruction, runology, poetics, and phylogeny.
Organizing committee: Matteo Tarsi, Eric T. Lander, John Ankarström
Call for Papers:
We invite abstracts that address any controversial or particularly
difficult problem in comparative Germanic linguistics. The symposium
should be considered an opportunity for open discussions aiming to
advance the discipline.
We specifically encourage junior researchers at the doctoral and
postdoctoral level to submit abstracts. All other things being equal,
priority will be given to those who have not previously presented at
Internationale Nachwuchstagungen der vergleichenden germanischen
Sprachwissenschaft in Zürich (2018, 2019, 2023). The maximum number of
accepted abstracts will be between 10 and 12.
Papers should ideally address a topic of interest within Germanic
and/or Indo-European comparative linguistics, whether general,
systemic and/or theoretical. They should preferably not focus on
single-word and or case studies limited to one or one language
subgroup within Germanic (e.g. a diachronic study of Icelandic, a
synchronic study of English dialects etc.).
Papers will be 20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion in English or
German. Abstracts will be accepted in English or German. No poster
session is scheduled.
Your abstract should be one A4 page, single-spaced, with 2.5 cm
margins and 12-point font, formatted as a PDF file. A second page with
data and figures and a third page with references are allowed.
Please send your abstract to uppsala.germanic.conference at gmail.com
The deadline for submission of abstracts is
Monday, January 15, 2025 at 08:00 Central European Time.
The abstract (PDF file) should be anonymized. Please provide author
names and affiliations in the body of the e-mail at submission.
Authors can only send one abstract with them as a first author and
they can be an additional author to only one more abstract.
Contact uppsala.germanic.conference at gmail.com for any remaining
questions.
