Job Description:

The Department of English at the University of Nevada, Reno invites
applications for an assistant professor, B-contract (9-month),
tenure-track position in Computational Linguistics. Though the
successful applicant will be housed in English, they will play a key
role in the recently launched interdisciplinary undergraduate program
in Computational Linguistics housed within the College of Liberal Arts
and the College of Engineering. The program confers the Bachelor of
Science degree.

This position will also involve teaching courses in core areas of
linguistics, such as syntax, morphology, phonology, and/or
sociolinguistics. Our linguistics courses are typically populated by
students drawn from a variety of majors, requiring the ability to
reach students with varying amounts of linguistics preparation.

While we invite applicants with any specialization within
Computational Linguistics, those with research profiles in natural
language processing, large language models, or computational
sociolinguistics are particularly encouraged to apply, as are those
with industry experience.

Our tenure-track faculty teach and mentor in our graduate program and
engage in scholarly research, teaching a 2/2 load. The start date for
this position is July 1, 2025.

Required Qualifications

- A Ph.D. in linguistics, computer science, or a closely related field
in hand by the start date
- An established or clearly developing research agenda in any sub-area
of computational linguistics
- A record of, or potential for, publishing in top-tier journals and
presses in relevant fields
- Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to inclusive teaching

Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to teach a range of courses in the core areas of linguistics
at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Ability to teach relevant undergraduate courses in computational
linguistics or those cross listed with Computer Science
- Evidence of, or strong potential to, attract external grant funding
- Evidence of attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion in
research, teaching, and/or service
