The School of Teacher Education in the College of Education, Health,
and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications
for a nine-month, tenure-earning assistant professor position in
Second Language Education and TESOL to start in August of 2025. We
seek a colleague committed to research, mentoring, teaching, and
leadership through service.
This position will report to the Director of the School of Teacher
Education and be affiliated with faculty in the Foreign and Second
Language Education program. Faculty in the program teach across
multiple degree programs including: (a) K-12 ESOL instruction courses
in the combined bachelors/masters degree; (b) online Masters in TESOL;
(c) online Masters in Curriculum and Instruction; (d) undergraduate
and graduate certificates in TESOL; and (e) the PhD. Graduates of our
PhD program are prepared for careers related to supporting
multilingual learners and their teachers as future faculty and
researchers.
The successful applicant will join a team of nationally recognized
tenure-track faculty who publish in top-tier journals and lead
cutting-edge programs of research. Program faculty members share
responsibility for programmatic and instructional decisions. Faculty
maintain a balance between rigorous research and high-quality
teaching. We seek a colleague with the ability to create and maintain
collegial and harmonious working relationships with others. We welcome
applications from candidates with research interests in a variety of
Second Language Education areas and openness to diverse research
methodologies.

Responsibilities
Applicants will be expected to engage in a promising and
clearly-defined program of research focused on language learning,
development, and instruction; teach undergraduate and graduate courses
through all modes of delivery (e.g., face-to-face, online) in ESOL,
Second Language Education, Second Language Acquisition and
Development, and Applied Linguistics; mentor graduate students and
direct doctoral dissertations; assist in program coordination in
collaboration with program faculty; seek external funding; perform
service to the department, college, university, and profession
commensurate with rank; and maintain a visible presence in their field
of specialization.
