Description:
The Department of English at Northern Arizona University invites
applications for a tenure-track position in Applied Linguistics at the
rank of Assistant Professor.
This position will reinforce our international reputation as one of
the top programs in Applied Linguistics and will increase our capacity
to offer high-level training to students and to successfully prepare
them for competitive careers in industry and academia. The new hire
will be a highly productive scholar with a strong and growing
reputation in the field of Applied Linguistics. This position will
allow us to enhance our international visibility, research
productivity, community impact, curriculum, and mentoring of both
graduate and undergraduate students.
Responsibilities Include:
- providing excellent instruction in a variety of courses at all
levels (BA, MA, PhD)
- maintaining an active research agenda
- student advising and mentoring
- doctoral student supervision
- department, college, university, and professional service
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, benefit-eligible Assistant
Professor position commencing in Fall 2025. Position is based on the
Northern Arizona University Flagstaff campus.
Minimum Qualifications
- completed PhD in Applied Linguistics or a related field by the time
of appointment
- a record of research (as evidenced by dissertation, presentations,
and publications) that complements the department’s strengths in
second language speech, second language acquisition, corpus
linguistics, language assessment, and/or TESL
- at least two refereed publications
Preferred Qualifications
- evidence of an established empirical research agenda in Applied
Linguistics
- evidence of the quantity, quality, and impact of one’s published
research
- experience and success in fostering and creating a collaborative,
inclusive, and supportive learning and working environment
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- skills in quantitative methods and research design
- ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Applied
Linguistics
- ability to supervise doctoral students
- ability to conduct, present, and publish collaborative research with
students
