Meeting Description:

ISLE8 follows a series of conferences which started in 2008 (ISLE
Inaugural Conference; Freiburg) and include ISLE2 (Boston, 2011),
ISLE3 (Zurich, 2014), ISLE4 (Poznan, 2016), ISLE5 (London, 2018),
ISLE6 (Joenssu, 2021) and ISLE7 (Brisbane, 2023).

ISLE8 will be hosted by the University of Santiago de Compostela from
1 to 4 September 2025. The event aims to bring together researchers
interested in any area of the study of the English language and of
English linguistics. On this occasion the theme will be "English
Linguistics on the Way: Expanding Horizons".

ISLE8 is organized by the research groups Variation, Linguistic Change
and Grammaticalization (VLCG) and SPERTUS.

Call for Papers:

We are delighted to announce that the University of Santiago de
Compostela will host ISLE8 between 1 and 4 September 2025, with the
conference theme English Linguistics on the Way: Expanding Horizons.
The event, which aims to bring together researchers interested in any
area of the study of the English language and of English linguistics,
is organized by the research groups Variation, Linguistic Change and
Grammaticalization (VLCG) and Spoken English Research Team at the
University of Santiago de Compostela (SPERTUS). The conference
(in-person) will take place at the Fontán Building, Cidade da Cultura
de Galicia.

We invite abstracts for full papers, posters and pre-conference
workshops.

Abstracts for full papers and posters should be between 400 and 500
words (excluding references) and should clearly state research
question(s), approach, data, method and (expected) results. Authors
may submit a maximum of two abstracts if at least one of the proposals
is co‐authored. Submission should be anonymous via ConfTool
<https://www.conftool.net/en/index.html>.

Proposals for workshops (full or half day) should be sent directly to
the organizers at ISLE8.conference at usc.gal.  They should include the
title of the workshop, the name and contact details of the
organizer(s) and of the proposed participants, and a short description
of the topics to be discussed (between 700 and 1000 words, excluding
references). If the workshop is finally accepted, workshop convenors
will be responsible for putting the individual abstracts together,
including peer reviewing.
