Department Statement
Vibrant, multidisciplinary and innovative, the Faculty of Arts and

its 29 departments, schools, centres and institutes, it offers over
300 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, some of which
are unique in Quebec. It is also home to some 30 interdisciplinary
research groups and centres. Every day, its 650-strong faculty is
helping shape a better tomorrow by opening up knowledge and promoting
the cross-fertilization of different perspectives.

The Department of Linguistics and Translation enables students to take
part in the intellectual life of a unit that combines 2 major
disciplines. The Department of Linguistics and Translation is home to
some twenty permanent professors and researchers, over 100 annual
courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, nearly 600
students and almost 175 graduates each year.

By joining our team, you will complement our students' training in a
fundamental discipline of Linguistics at the cutting edge of research
and technology.

The successful candidate's file, depending on their expertise and
interest, could be proposed for a position as an IVADO Professor.
These positions offer improved starting conditions. The person will
participate in the ambitious project (IAR3) aimed at the development
and adoption of robust, reasoning and responsible artificial
intelligence for which IVADO has just obtained an Apogée grant.

Your day-to-day impact
Through your teaching and your research activities, you will play a
pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore,

this role, your responsibilities will include:

Teaching at all three levels, supervise graduate students, pursue
research, publication and outreach activities, and contribute to the
institution's activities;
- Training undergraduate students in basic and advanced phonetics, as
well as in the experimental aspects of the discipline;
- Promoting graduate research and teaching activities that address
theoretical, methodological and experimental issues in phonetics:
laboratory techniques for the study of acoustics, production,
perception, processing and/or acquisition of speech with human
participants;
- Contributing to the development of the Department of Linguistics and
Translation's Phonetics and Experimental Linguistics Laboratory;
- Creating or strengthening links with research teams or professional
circles working in experimental linguistics and related fields at the
Université de Montréal, in Montreal, in Canada and internationally.

What you'll need to succeed

- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality university teaching.
- Additional experience in Neuroscience or Artificial Intelligence
(AI) is an asset.
- Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment
