Description:
We invite applications for the ZuKoKo Summer School 2025, hosted by
the Zurich research group on Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics
(ZuKoKo). This one-week in-person program is aimed at PhD students,
postdoctoral researchers, and advanced MA students with an interest in
corpus-based approaches to language use.
Participants will explore the acquisition, preparation, and analysis
of linguistic data through hands-on training and theoretical
reflection, guided by international experts in the field. A special
focus will be on introducing the programming language Python in a way
tailored to corpus linguistic and pragmatic research.
The summer school is structured into four modules:
Module 1 – Foundations: Theoretical and methodological grounding in
corpus pragmatics + Introduction to Python
Module 2 – (Corpus) Resources: Working with existing corpora (e.g.
DeReKo, DWDS) and creating your own corpora
Module 3 – (Corpus) Analyses: Analytical approaches using tools such
as COSMAS II/KorAP or Python-based methods
Module 4 – The Future of Corpus Pragmatics: Insights into language
models and their relevance for linguistic research
The program also includes a poster session, a guest lecture, and a
guided tour through Zurich.
The course language will be German.
