The Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences
(ILRAS) and the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT) are
co-organizing an international conference in Moscow on the topic of
"Linguistic Forum: 2025. Bible Translation as a Way to Preserve and
Develop Languages: Traditions and New Approaches" on October 16-18,
2025.
This conference continues the series of annual linguistic forums
launched by ILRAS in 2019. It is timed to coincide with the 75th
anniversary of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of
Sciences and the 30th anniversary of the Institute for Bible
Translation as an officially registered organization in the Russian
Federation.
Issues to be discussed at the conference include:
▪ the use of Bible translations for linguistic research;
▪ the role of Bible translation in raising the prestige and
preservation of minority and endangered languages;
▪ Bible translation as a stimulus for the creation of writing systems
in history and modernity;
▪ the possibilities of using Bible translations for teaching language
and literature;
▪ the selection of the specific language variety/dialect for use in
Bible translation;
▪ the influence of Bible translations on a language’s grammar and
lexicon;
▪ the relationship between “academic” and common-language Bible
translation;
▪ the use of multimedia in Bible translation as a way to increase
interest in the text;
▪ the role of Bible translation in creating lexicographic materials;
▪ oral Bible translation; Bible translation into sign languages;
▪ biblical texts as material for creating parallel corpora;
▪ the use of AI in Bible translation.
The conference will be held in a mixed/hybrid format (both in-person
and online).
The working languages of the conference are Russian and English.
The organizational fee is 1500 rubles.
The plenary speakers will be announced at a later date.

Those wishing to present a paper at the conference are kindly
requested to send their anonymized abstract by June 1, 2025 to
lingforum at iling-ran.ru. The author's name should not appear either in
the text of the abstract or in the file properties.
Abstract length: one A4 page (Times New Roman, 12 pt font, single
spacing, 2.5 margins; .pdf, .doc(x) or .rtf), the second page can be
used for examples and references.
We will notify you of the program committee's decision regarding
acceptance of abstracts no later than July 1, 2025.
When sending your abstract, please indicate in the body of the email:
▪ the paper title/topic
▪ the author’s information (full name, affiliation, email address and
phone number)
