Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Chicago invites
applications for a Research Associate position. The Research Associate
will join a dynamic research group focusing on projects investigating
the construction of social meanings across various contexts
(including, but not limited to legal contexts) and linguistic
variables using a range of experimental, sociophonetic, and/or
computational techniques. The Research Associate’s primary
responsibilities include setting up and performing experiments,
collecting, maintaining and analyzing data, conducting literature
reviews, assisting with preparing reports, manuscripts, and other
documents, interacting with students and other laboratory staff in
collaboration with the principal investigator (Sharese King). Other
responsibilities may include the following non-laboratory duties:
assisting in recruiting research subjects; assisting with developing
or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection
tools; assisting with maintaining databases; providing general
administrative support. There are no required teaching
responsibilities for the position, but you may be asked to hold
occasional technical workshops for students.
The expected start date is October 1, 2025, or as soon as possible
thereafter, with an initial term of appointment until August 31, 2027.
Reappointment is possible following a successful review during the
second year. This is a renewable, benefits-eligible position.
