For the last 41 years, throughout the many turning points and
developments of language teaching and learning, NATESOL has been a
space for teachers and researchers to share and develop their
practice. We have always regarded a focus on the learner as a key
component of this. It is not a new focus; from the work of O’Malley &
Chamot in the 1980s on learner strategy training to Dörnyei’s lifelong
work on motivating learners and more recent, ongoing work by
Godwin-Jones on technology and language learning, they have boosted
our understanding of strategies, tips, techniques and opportunities to
help our learners learn.
So, for our 41st annual conference, we have speakers who have fostered
or investigated innovative and practical approaches to helping our
learners develop and share their practice so that other teachers may
benefit their learners by implementing these ideas.
In a world where our professional lives are so busy, this event will
be online and in person, so we welcome speakers and attendees from
across the globe and across the field of English language teaching
including ESOL, EAL / ELL, EFL and EAP.
