Focus: State of the Field Address: Academic grants & underrepresented
languages
Prof. Enoch Aboh (University of Amsterdam) will be presenting on
'Underrepresented Languages in Syntactic Theory', showcasing the
importance of diverse data in theoretical work. As well as focusing on
academic findings, he will spend some time talking about his
experience of successful applying for big research grants. Prof. Aboh
has lead a number of different large-scale research projects. There
will be something for everyone in this talk!
Skills workshop: Academic and public-facing presentations
Dr Laura Bailey (University of Kent) has extensive experience of
presenting to both academic and public audiences. Come along to our
skills workshop at the LAGB summer school (2nd September 2025,
University of Suffolk) to get her tips and tricks for making your
presentations pop!
Careers Event: Interview workshop with the Postgraduate Student
Committee
Thinking about your career next steps? Bring along an ad for a job you
could imagine applying for, and get some hands on practice asking and
answering interview questions in this fun and collaborative workshop.
Comparing approaches
Prof. Miriam Butt (University of Konstanz) will present on
computational approaches to linguistics. What status does theoretical
linguistics have in a world with powerful LLMs?
Description:
The LAGB Summer School 2025 includes academic talks ranging
from underrepresented languages to perspectives in computational
approaches to linguistics. We’re hosting a skills workshop on academic
and public-facing presentations, and a careers event aimed at
providing practical experience for job interviews.
