Subject: Extra Round CIPL-Abralin Travel Grants for InterAb 2026
CIPL, Comité International Permanent des Linguistes, is delighted to
announce an extra round of 5 travel grants for the Abralin InterAb
conference March 2-6 in UFPE Recife, Brazil.
The application procedure is as follows
Who is eligible
Advanced students in linguistics without a PhD are eligible to receive
a once-only grant of € 500 to help fund their participation in the
Interab conference. Candidates who study or work at UFPE are not
eligible, nor are candidates who live in Recife. In the event of equal
results, preference will be given to candidates from outside Brazil
who wish to present their research at this conference.
Conditions
The student must present a paper at the conference. Only one author of
co-authored papers can be supported by a CIPL grant. A co-author who
submits an application for a grant must make clear what part he/she
had in the preparation and what part he/she will have in the
presentation. Only a co-author whose contribution consists of at least
50% of both the paper and the presentation is eligible for a grant.
How to apply
Applicants must complete an application form that can be downloaded
here. If you want a Wordfile of this application form, please send us
a message (CIPLtravelgrant at ciplnet.com).
The application should also include an abstract of the paper to be
presented; a CV; proof that the paper has been accepted for
presentation; and a letter of support by the student’s academic
advisor. If the abstract is written in Portuguese, a short summary in
English must be included (approximately 200 words). The title of the
presentation must be given or translated in English, just as a short
CV. The letter of recommendation must also be written in English or
must be accompanied by an English translation.
Proof of participation
After the conference, a substantial report of the awardee’s
participation (a size of 500 to 800 words is recommended), accompanied
by a copy of a certificate of participation, must be presented to
CIPL.
Deadline
Applications should be sent to the Secretary-General of CIPL, Prof Dr
Frieda Steurs, CIPLtravelgrant at ciplnet.com. The deadline is
January15th
Procedure
- A special committee, consisting of respected members of Abralin and
CIPL, will evaluate the applications, aiming for a geographical and
gender distribution of applicants.
- All subdisciplines of linguistics are eligible. No particular theory
or approach to linguistics is favoured over any other.
- The Secretary-General of CIPL will announce the results of the grant
applications during the second week of February.
- The applicant will receive € 350 immediately after the granting of
the scholarship.
- The remaining € 150 will be transferred on receipt of the conference
report and the certificate of attendance.
Application prior to notification
It is possible to submit an application before the organizers of the
conference have informed the applicant that his/her paper has been
selected for presentation. In such a case, the applicant submits a
provisional application for a grant. If the grant is awarded, the
applicant must inform CIPL immediately after acceptance by the
conference, after which the first part of the grant will be paid out.
If an abstract is rejected by the conference organizers, the applicant
must withdraw his/her grant application. The grant will then be
awarded to the next applicant on the reserve list drawn up by the
grant committee.
