Description:
Studies in the Cognitive Science of Language at McMaster University
The vibrant graduate program in the Cognitive Science of Language is
welcoming applications from excellent students with degrees in
Linguistics, Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science or
related areas. Based in the department of Linguistics and Languages,
the program is interdisciplinary and includes faculty from Humanities,
Science, and Health Sciences. The program has a strong research
orientation with expertise in cognitive science, corpus linguistics,
phonetics/phonology, neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics,
sociolinguistics, and theoretical linguistics. The program pursues
fundamental questions in the nexus of linguistics, cognitive science
and cognitive neuroscience and provides students with rigorous
training in experimental, computational and field-work research
methods. Applications are invited to a two-year Master of Science and
a four-year PhD program.
Successful candidates will be awarded the standard Master’s or PhD
funding packages during their degree work, in alignment with their
level of studies, consisting of Graduate Scholarships as well as
guaranteed Teaching Assistantships. The application deadline is
January 31, 2026.
