ILANSCO 2026 brings together scholars examining the evolving
relationships among language, society, cognition, and landscapes.
Building on the success of the inaugural ILANSCO 2024 conference in
Zürich, the 2026 meeting will focus on the theme “Emerging Landscapes:
Languages and Landscapes in Conflict.” This year’s edition highlights
landscapes understood as contested, transforming, and frontier spaces
shaped by linguistic, cultural, political, and ecological forces.
We invite contributions engaging critically and creatively with this
theme. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Landscapes in which perceptual tools are pushed to their limits
(e.g., extreme environments, political upheaval, emergent settlement
zones)
- Situations where research methods or theories struggle to account
for complex lived experience (e.g., tensions between linguistic
representations and embodied knowledge)
- Landscapes as contingent, claimed, or contested spaces structured by
linguistic, ethnic, political, or ecological dynamics
We welcome original and interdisciplinary submissions drawing on
applied, theoretical, quantitative, qualitative, experimental, or
computational approaches. Early-career researchers and works in
progress or from ongoing research projects are especially encouraged
to participate.
