Papers presented at ISMIL are concerned with the Malay/Indonesian
language in any of its varieties. In addition to the standardized
versions of Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia, papers
are particularly welcome dealing with non-canonical isolects such as
regional dialects of Malay and Indonesian, contact and heritage
varieties, as well as other closely related Malayic languages. Papers
may be in any of the subfields of linguistics, and may represent
variegated approaches and diverse theoretical frameworks.
Presentations at ISMIL are delivered in English.
ISMIL29 will feature a special session in which the genesis and
classification of Malay/Indonesian varieties as contact varieties will
be discussed, including the still controversial question of prior
creolization.
We also encourage the submission of papers on the phonetics and/or
phonology of Malay/Indonesian and related Malayic varieties.
The program will feature the following invited plenary speakers:
Abigail C. Cohn (Cornell University)
James T. Collins (National University of Malaysia and Northern
Illinois University)
Persons wishing to present a paper at the symposium are invited to
submit an anonymous one-page abstract (preferably in pdf) to
ismil29.tampere at outlook.com.
Please indicate your name, affiliation, and the title of your abstract
in the body of your email message. Your abstract should include the
title of your presentation, without personal identifiers. Data and
references may appear on a second page.
