Subject: Call for Chapter Proposals: Illustrating African Phonologies
We invite proposals for chapters in a new edited collection:
Illustrating African Phonologies.
About the volume:
This collection aims to highlight work that applies phonetic,
experimental, quantitative, or laboratory methods to the phonology of
African languages.
While it has historically been difficult to apply these
methodologies to under-resourced and under-studied African languages,
more recent work has increasingly leveraged new technologies to tackle
questions at this intersection of phonetics and phonology. This type
of research has proven that key insights about phonological patterns
may emerge only under the light of data sources not traditionally
recorded in descriptive grammars.
Details:
We envision papers to be in the range of 10–20 pages. If you have an
idea for a longer paper or a shorter squib please email the editors to
discuss.
Work being done by or in collaboration with linguists on the African
continent is especially welcome.
Language Science Press is our target press, in their book
series Contemporary African Linguistics.
Express interest by submitting an abstract (deadline: March 31, 2025):
To express interest, submit a 1-2 page abstract via the form
at https://bit.ly/40axhNd. The form also asks for up to five keywords
describing your submission.
