We are pleased to announce the call for abstracts for the 2025
International Joint Conference of APLX (2025 Taipei Tech International
Conference on Applied Linguistics), ETA (The 34th International
Symposium on English Language Teaching and Learning) and TESPA
(International Conference on ESP) scheduled for November 7-8, 2025 at
National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT, Taipei Tech), Taipei,
Taiwan.
With the conference theme ‘Re-imaging human empowerment in ELT for a
changing world’, we aim to spark dialogue on how we can
re-conceptualize empowerment, carrying forward valuable pedagogical
“user states” (e.g., existing knowledge, learner identities, effective
methodologies) while introducing new frameworks, narratives, and
practices that better serve our learners and teachers in an
ever-changing world.
Abstracts are welcome in any area of applied linguistics and English
language teaching and learning, including but not limited to:
1. Applied Linguistics: pragmatics, discourse analysis,
sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics, phraseology,
language and culture, language and technology, language assessment,
cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communication, gender studies,
multimodalities, and other relevant topics;
2. Bilingual Education and Bilingualism: English medium instruction
(EMI), content and language integrated learning (CLIL), bilingual
language acquisition, bilingual teacher education and development, and
other relevant topics;
3. Foreign Language Teaching Theory and Practice: L2
acquisition/second language acquisition, content-based instruction,
multi-/cross-cultural issues in English education, technology and
English education, language assessment, and other relevant topics;
4. ESP Research and Teaching: technical writing, corpus resources,
English for vocational
education/business/management/tourism/science/technology/engineering,
innovations in ESP curriculum design, international/inter-cultural
communication, trends and challenges in English for specific purposes,
and other relevant topics;
5. Translation Studies: theory and practice of translation and
interpretation, translation and interpretation teaching, audiovisual
translation, game localization, translation and technology, news
translation, and other relevant topics.
6. Other Topics such as literature and language teaching
Types of presentations
Oral presentation: Each paper will be allocated 20 minutes for oral
presentation and 5 minutes for discussion.
Poster presentation: A dedicated area and time slot will be arranged
for display and discussion of posters.
Abstract submission
- Abstracts should be between 200-300 words, with 3-5 keywords

- Notification of abstract acceptance: April 15, 2025
- Full paper submission: September 1, 2025
- Notification of full paper acceptance: October 15, 2025
