Subject: Class of Language, Munich (LMU): New Admissions for winter semester 2025/26 1x GSSP/DAAD PhD-Scholarship and regular PhD positions

In the forthcoming winter semester 2025/2026, the Class of Language at
the Graduate School of Language & Literature, Munich is offering one
GSSP PhD-Scholarship (DAAD), as well as additional non-funded
positions in our PhD program.
The DAAD-scholarship includes: scholarship payments of currently €
1,300 a month, a travel allowance; payments towards health, accident
and personal liability insurance cover; a research allowance of
currently between € 460 - € 260 per year
Application deadline: April 1st, 2025.
Doctoral students in the Class of Language at LMU Munich benefit from
excellent conditions, including a research-oriented and systematically
structured interdisciplinary teaching program, as well as individual
and intensive supervision by professors from various linguistic
disciplines. Members of the Class of Language also profit from diverse
opportunities for academic exchange between doctoral students,
professors, and international guests, as well as from the provision of
key qualifications and financial support (e.g. for research or
conference trips). Doctoral students in the Class of Language also
have excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation with
doctoral peers from the Class of Language Education, the Class of
Literature, or the Class of Culture and History, all of which are also
embedded in the Graduate School Language & Literature Munich.
Applicants are expected to provide a convincing project outline, an
above-average university degree (state examination, state board
examination, Magister Artium, diploma, Master of Arts, Maîtrise,
Laurea, etc.) in a linguistic discipline, teamwork skills, willingness
to actively participate in the class, and adequate knowledge of at
least two European scientific languages, including preferably German.
DAAD scholarships are exclusively for international applicants who
must have completed their degree (see above) at the starting date of
the scholarship/preparatory German course. Applicants must not have
been residing in Germany for more than fifteen months prior on May,
1st 2025. Applicants should not have graduated any longer than six
years before May, 1st 2025 and not have completed a PhD previously.
Research phases outside Germany during the funding period can be
supported if they do not exceed 25% of the total funding period, and
do not take place directly at the beginning of the funding period.
Applications from developing countries and emerging nations are
particularly welcome.
Kindly specify in your application whether you are solely interested
in the funded scholarship or if you are also open to non-funded PhD
positions. The Class of Language is committed to assisting its members
in securing alternative funding.
