Description:

The Departments of Indigenous Studies and Linguistics, Faculty of Arts
at the University of Manitoba invite applications for a full-time
Probationary (tenure-track) appointment in Indigenous Language
Revitalization and/or Documentation at the rank of Assistant or
Associate Professor. The appointment has an anticipated start date of
July 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin on February 18, 2025,
and will continue until the position is filled. Salary and rank will
be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a productive and
internationally recognized research program in Indigenous language
documentation and/or revitalization, obtain external funding, teach
graduate-level and undergraduate-level courses in Linguistics and
Indigenous Studies, supervise graduate and undergraduate research, and
contribute to service. Alternative delivery modes of teaching (e.g.
online instruction) may be available. The standard weighting of
responsibilities for full-time equivalent faculty members in the
Faculty of Arts is 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service. The
normal teaching load is 12 credit hours or 4 courses per year (with
teaching release for new faculty in the first 2 years.)
Candidates should have completed a PhD in Language Revitalization or
Linguistics or a related field, or possess an equivalent combination
of education and experience. Applicants should demonstrate a strong
record of research or experience in areas such as language
documentation, revitalization, and related community work. Preference
will be given to applicants who can contribute to the existing
teaching and research strengths of the departments. Evidence of
community-based work will be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in general
linguistics and the linguistics of Indigenous languages at both the
graduate and undergraduate levels with a strong preference for those
who can also contribute to teaching Cree or Ojibwe.
