Description:
The Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) is an eight-week
intensive language training program for undergraduates, graduate
students, professionals, and non-traditional students. Students learn
speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills through classroom
instruction and a full range of co-curricular activities.
Languages offered through SEASSI include:
Burmese
Filipino
Hmong
Indonesian
Javanese
Khmer
Lao
Thai
Vietnamese
Tuition: $5,000
Tuition Explanation: The maximum cost of tuition for SEASSI is $5,000,
which is based on standard UW-Madison summer tuition rates.
This cost may be less for current UW-Madison students and WI and MN
residents. SEASSI is committed to making our instruction as affordable
as possible while keeping the highest quality of instruction. The cost
to attend SEASSI is the same for both onsite and distance students.
Financial Aid Applications accepted until 28-Feb-2025
The various types of funding that students can apply for to help ease
the financial burden of tuition and living expenses are listed below.

Feel free to apply for more than one fellowship if you fit the
eligibility criteria.
We encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to consult with
their home department and university’s office of financial aid for any
funding they might offer.
Financial Aid Instructions:
Apply through our SEASSI general application and submit supporting
documents (a statement of financial need and two (2) letters of
recommendation).
