Description:
We are looking for a reliable and motivated person to assist in the
implementation and analysis of linguistic experiments. The
Experimental Linguistics in Cologne (XLinC) Lab at the University of
Cologne (headed by Professor Petra Schumacher) is equipped with EEG,
eye-tracking, reaction time and speech production facilities including
mobile EEG and eye-tracking devices. Our research focus lies on
semantics, pragmatics and prosody, with new advances in language
processing in interactive communicative situations.
The position is part of the Collaborative Research Centre “Prominence
in Language” (CRC 1252), a dynamic research environment with 20
research projects in linguistics and related fields. Our vision is to
investigate prominence relations in larger discourse segments and
dialogue. More information can be found here:

The position is available from 1 April 2025 on a full-time basis
(39.83 hours per week). The position is to be filled for a fixed term
until 31 December 2028. If the applicant meets the relevant wage
requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on
remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public
sector.
YOUR TASKS
- Support experimental research in the XLinC Lab with a particular
emphasis on data collection, processing and analysis.
- A central focus will be on processing and analysing data from
interactive communication studies, which requires excellent
programming skills.
- Create pipelines and workflows for data processing and analysis.
- Assist in experiment design, statistical analysis and data
visualization.
- Provide training for researchers and students.
YOUR PROFILE
- Academic university degree (Master`s degree or equivalent) in a
relevant subject area (linguistics, computational linguistics,
psychology, cognitive science, computer science or similar); PhD
desirable
- Demonstrated programming experience, for instance with any of R,
Python, MATLAB, or C++; knowing Julia is an asset
- Very good knowledge of experimental research
- Excellent knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics
- Very good English and German language skills
- Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary setting
- Very good communication skills
- Experience with the analysis of multimodal data and an interest in
Open Science is a plus
