We are pleased to inform you that the 6th edition of UCM's
International Predoctoral Conference on English Linguistics (UPCEL) is
in motion and will be held on January 21, 22 and 23, 2026 at the
Complutense University of Madrid (Faculty of Philology). Organised by
the PhD Programme in English Linguistics at UCM—a programme which has
consistently maintained an Excellence Distinction from the Spanish
Ministry of Education since 2004—UPCEL seeks to bring together
researchers and practitioners from different fields to create an
interdisciplinary space and build a community of practice; it is
therefore not only a research venue but also a place where people
working in diverse areas can meet and collaborate.
This year’s edition, titled “Expanding the horizons of English
Linguistics”, aims to be a forum for reflection and dialogue on the
new contexts, challenges, methodologies, and conceptualisations of the
construct of ‘language’ that 21st-century Linguistics faces.
We aim to attract contributions from a wide range of areas within the
field of English Linguistics that address current research
developments and interdisciplinary methods and practices in an
ever-changing global paradigm.
As a predoctoral conference, we encourage predoctoral students and
early-career scholars to submit their work and share it with us.
The full program is not yet available, but we are honoured to confirm
Dr. Francisco Lorenzo Bergillos (Pablo de Olavide University) and Dr.
Patricia Bou-Franch (University of Valencia) as keynote speakers.
