The Faculty 3, Language and Information Sciences, invites applications
for a Professorship (W2) for English Linguistics (m/w/d) (Bes.Gr. W2
NBesO) at the Institute for English Language and Literature.
The position is open from April 2026.
The Institute for English Language and Literature seeks an engaging,
research-active colleague to join our dynamic team. Our Institute
primarily focuses on teacher education, with an additional program in
Applied Linguistics currently offered at the B.A. level. We offer
comprehensive education in English linguistics, literary studies, and
cultural studies, emphasizing both theoretical foundations and
practical applications in educational contexts.
The successful candidate will contribute to our mission of supporting
professional development for educators at all stages of their careers.
The newly appointed professor should aim to investigate the
application of AI technologies both in English language teaching in
schools and in wider social
communication. In addition, the impact of AI-supported language
systems on the transformation of the English language in everyday life
should be analyzed.
This professorship is situated within the University of Hildesheim’s
profile areas “AI in Everyday Life” and “Education and Social
Participation”, two of the three distinctive domains where researchers
collaborate across disciplines to address societal challenges. For

Responsibilities:
- Research, teaching, and transfer in all the central areas of
English linguistics with special consideration of our teacher
education program
- Engagement in interdisciplinary cooperation based on excellent
disciplinary research
- Research-based teaching and supervision in the bachelor and master
programmes of the Institute, including the B.A. program English
Applied Linguistics
- Supervision of doctoral and post-doctoral theses
Qualifications:
- University degree (English Linguistics or equivalent study
programme)
- Pedagogical and didactical proficiency confirmed by practical
experience
- Exceptional qualifications for in-depth independent academic work,
which is usually demonstrated by an above-average doctorate (English
linguistics or equivalent discipline)
- Additional academic achievements (“second book”) (in English
linguistics or equivalent discipline), which have generally been
achieved in the context of a junior professorship or a habilitation,
otherwise also in the context of work as a research assistant at a
university or a non-university research institution or in the context
of other academic work in Germany or abroad
- Interdisciplinary and international research experience
- A research focus in at least one of the following areas: artificial
intelligence, corpus linguistics/learner corpora, language resources,
cognitive linguistics, assessment, or research methods
- Proficiency in the German language (at B1 level required after 3
years, C1 after 6 years of employment)
Desired:
- Experience in externally funded research projects
- Enthusiasm for teaching English language skills and culture-
especially to future teachers
- Willingness to promote gender sensitivity
