Description:
The Faculty of Philology of the University of Freiburg invites
applications for a Full Professorship (W3) for English Language and
Linguistics (to succeed Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Christian Mair) in the
Department of English to be filled by April 1, 2026.
The future incumbent of the position should represent the field of
English Linguistics in its entirety, with an explicit focus on
language variation and change documented by relevant high-calibre
research publications or third-party funded projects. The position
holder works in a team of linguists from Freiburg, actively conducting
successful empirical, corpusbased research with interdisciplinary
connections and collaborations. Qualification and willingness to
actively participate in the Hermann Paul Center for Linguistics and
the Hermann Paul Graduate School for Linguistics, the Digital
Humanities Lab of the faculty, linguistic degree programs, and
interdisciplinary research networks of the faculty are expected.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university
degree, an outstanding doctoral dissertation and an excellent
publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in
academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation
according to the German academic system, are expected.
