5th Bilingualism in the Hispanic and Lusophone World Conference

We are pleased to announce the 5th edition of the Bilingualism in the
Hispanic and Lusophone World Conference (BHL), which will be held at
the University of Reading from January 12 to 14, 2026. This biennial
international event — previously hosted by Leiden University (2015,
2019), Florida State University (2017), and Universidad de las
Américas Puebla (2024) — brings together scholars investigating
bilingualism and multilingualism across the Hispanic and Lusophone
worlds.
Conference Theme:
BHL invites contributions addressing any aspect of bilingualism and
multilingualism, including, but not limited to:
- Psycholinguistic aspects of multilingualism
- Second language and bilingual/multilingual acquisition, including
heritage languages
- Bilingualism/multilingualism in society and culture (e.g., language
contact, identity, migration, language policy)
- Bilingualism/multilingualism in education and technology (e.g.,
teaching in multilingual classrooms, language learning apps, digital
inclusion)
- Theoretical linguistics related to bilingual and multilingual
phenomena

Submission Guidelines:
We invite abstracts for the following presentation formats:
- Oral presentations (20-minute presentation + 10-minute discussion)
- Blitz talks (6-minute presentation + 4-minute discussion)
- Posters
Abstracts must be anonymous and no more than 300 words, excluding
references. Please specify your preferred presentation format (talk,
blitz, poster, or all). Submissions must be made via the following
link:

Language Policy:
The official conference languages are English, Spanish, and
Portuguese. Abstracts may also be submitted in other languages of the
Hispanic or Lusophone world; however, in such cases, a version in one
of the official languages must also be provided. Please note that
presenters using languages other than English, Spanish, or Portuguese
are responsible for providing their own interpreters.
Awards and Publication:
A Best Poster Award will be granted based on clarity and scientific
merit.
All conference participants will be invited to submit papers for a
Special Issue on Bilingualism in the Hispanic and Lusophone World.
